This convenient bed and breakfast is located "downtown" in the picturesque mountain hamlet of Keene Valley, the heart of the High Peaks. The legendary hiking trails of the Adirondack Great Range begin just minutes from our doorstep, as do a wide selection of other trails for hikers of every level of experience. Keene Valley is also home to many of the celebrated Adirondack rock and ice climbing cliffs. In winter, the extensive trail network provides endless miles of terrain for the snowshoer or back-country skiier.
Before you hit the trail, start the day with our leisurely breakfast buffet, designed to stick to the ribs during a long day in the woods. The hearty selection includes home-baked muffins, eggs, bread baked in a local wood-fired oven, fresh fruit, a hot organic oatmeal bar, and gourmet coffee.
After a day in the wilderness, relax at our Adirondack bed and breakfast by our granite fireplace in the main lodge room, curl up with a good book from the library in the music room, or take in the evening mountain air on the front porch.
Your hosts, Laurie and George Daniels (owners since 1999), are avid hikers, climbers, snowshoers, and skiiers themselves, and are happy to share their years of experience in the High Peaks to help you plan an unforgettable day. They are also well-acquainted with kid-friendly hikes and activities that the whole family will enjoy.
The Keene Valley Lodge is a local Landmark, built in 1910 as the grand private home of Fletcher Beede, the prominent sawmill owner and builder who had recently completed the construction of what is now the Ausable Club. When Fletcher died, his wife Katherine and daughter Marie decided to open their spacious home as a lodge known as The Beede Cottage, catering even back then to the many visitors who came to Keene Valley for its dramatic mountain landscape and serene pace of life.
Today's guests will enjoy the same irresistible allure that has made Keene Valley a destination for hikers, skiiers, artists, writers, fishermen, and nature lovers for over a century. It's spectacular peaks clear streams and waterfalls, and intimate village life will capture the imagination, and call the visitor back year after year.
